SWISH OF THE KRIS: THE STORY OF THE MOROS

JUNGLE PATROL: THE STORY OF THE PHILIPPINE CONSTABULARY 1901-1936.

Author: VIC HURLEY

Last year while mulling the terrorist problem, our President made a reference to something from the first decade of the 20th century. Stricken with a case of the High Vapors, what passes for our media blubbered that it was not true. IT WAS NOT TRUE!!

          Alas. Alack.

Having access to documents now lost and men who were there, Great War veteran and failed coconut farmer Vic Hurley wrote two of the best histories of the Philippines covering the years 1901 - 1936. With invaluable maps, cultural and linguistic data and even the salaries of servicemen by rank, they introduced readers to something Americans had never encountered before in their history…the Juramentado.  Best described as a suicide decapitator, this tactic of the Islamic Moros constituted a major threat to American and Filipino lives…until a Colonel Rodgers with a theological insight unexpected in a cavalry man came up with a response so decisive that it rivals the Hiroshima bombing in effectiveness. This is what the President was referring to.  The basis for a Gary Cooper film called THE REAL GLORY available in classic DVDs, these highly recommended books are in the new section.
