Unusual English story told through letters from people on the Isle of Guernsey, which was cut off completely from England when Germany occupied it in WWII.

In postwar England, a young female author receives a request for a book from a member of this very curiously named book club. So starts a correspondence with other members, who tell stories of their simple lives turned upside down and coming together during the occupation and afterwards. Drawn to the island, the author visits them.

I started reading at first with a frown about these letters, got hooked by these quirky, down-to-earth people, and LOVED the audio book where the reader gave each one their unique English accent which brought them to life even more. The story and people will make you want them for friends, and you’ll end up looking at a map to see where Guernsey Island is, and then you’ll want to write a letter to someone. The book is enjoyable, as well as endearing and memorable. CD audio is a treat. FYI . . . Listen or read the book now, as a movie is being made with some of the actors from Downton Abbey. We have the book in New Fic Shaffer and LT Fic Shaffer.
