Hicksville Library's Planned Phases of Reopening

Phase 1: June 8 - Library employees will return to work in the building in a reduced capacity. Only staff will be permitted into the building.
Phase 2: June 15 – We will begin lending materials to Nassau County residents with a valid library card only via curbside pickup. Only staff will be permitted into the building.
Phase 3: Date to be determined - Modified opening of the building with “Grab and Go” for patrons. Limited number of patrons in building to select and checkout items. Social distancing in place. No other in-house services. Significant modifications of facilities may be implemented such as the installation of sneeze guards, restrictions on public access, building use, etc.
Phase 4: Date to be determined - Open to a limited number of public patrons with social distancing in place; some modification of facilities and no public events or gatherings.

Each of these phases will depend on the status of the area metrics and the ability for us to safely offer services in the library. The Board will continue to monitor the directives/orders of the Federal, State, and Local Governments and make further determinations pursuant to same.

The book drops are currently closed until further notice. All materials will be quarantined for 72 hours before being cleared and may not come off your record right away. All late fines are being waived.

Update from the Board of Trustees:

March 26, 2020

To assist in preventative measures of the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Hicksville Public Library is closed until further notice. All Library programming through April 19th has either been cancelled or postponed. However, the Hicksville Public Library staff is still working from home to provide online assistance to our patrons. The online resources we have been offering for years are now at the forefront.

On Wednesday, March 25th, the Board of Trustees, after careful examination of the community situation, put together our budget for the fiscal year of 2020-2021. We took a big step to help the community during this catastrophic crisis by having a zero increase on this year's budget. We have made every effort to minimize any potential difficulty due to this decision to try to mitigate the financial situation for many residents in this community. Our goal is to help bring the highest level of library services available to our patrons during this crisis.

We are committed to working with the community to maintain the operation of library services. In addition, we are completely confident in the dedication of the Hicksville Public Library staff to continue to work behind the scenes to keep the high level of services that this community deserves.

We implemented a chat service on our library home page. You can also call the library at 931-1417 ext. I 05 for general information, ext. 124 for Reference, ext. 112 for Children's, and ext.115 for Computer Services. You can reach us by email at hplinfo@hicksvillelibrary.org. We will contact you within 24 hours.

We hope to see you again soon. In the meantime, please continue to follow the CDC guidelines by staying home. Be healthy and safe.

Best Regards,

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Mr. Carlos Munozospina, President
Mrs. Mary D’Antonio, Vice-President
Mr. Geoffrey Rowan, Secretary
Mrs. Gurbani Malhotra
Mrs. Joanne Curran Perrucci

Statement from Library Director, Elizabeth Goldfrank:

All Library programming through Tuesday, March 31st has been either cancelled or postponed. Museum passes are suspended until further notice. These dates are subject to change. Please check our website, Facebook page, or phone message prior to visiting the Library.

Our number one priority is the safety of our patrons. At this time there are no reported cases of Coronavirus at the Hicksville Library. We are proactively taking this step as a precautionary measure to ensure the welfare and safety of each member of our community, particularly those most vulnerable. We will continue to monitor all new information released on the Coronavirus and will adhere to the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), both local and federal government agencies, and health officials.

No fines or late fees will incur on materials that are due within the duration of the closure. Any library card that expires prior to May 1st will automatically be renewed until May 1, 2020.
